Pope Francis

March 22, 2013
By Jocelyne Aguilar of South Houston High School

After a long wait, a new pope was finally chosen on Thursday, March 14th and Catholics around the world are cheering. Pope Francis from Argentina is elected as the new pope after Pope Benedict XVI retired for the reason of having poor health. It’s been about 600 years since a pope retired, but Pope Francis promises to be the best pope he can be.

Many are happy that there is a new pope, including students here at SHHS.

Sophomore Marissa Moreno speaks about her feelings on the new pope.

“He seems cool”, said Moreno. “I’m glad that there is a new pope. It’s sad that the old pope retired but it’s nice to have a new one; since it’s been like over 600 years since a pope retired.”
