Valentine's Day

February 13, 2013
By Cynthia Lara of South Houston High School

Valentine's Day or more commonly known as “who can receive the biggest teddy bear” day is probably the most significant date in high school next to the obvious SAT test dates, but why? Why is one so obsessed with receiving something on Valentine’s Day? Many just want a simple reminder of how special they are on Valentine’s Day so everyone knows he or she was worth spending $5.97 on a box of chocolates. One’s self-worth should not be dependent on receiving a gift on this holiday. It’s nice to be remembered and appreciated, but one should not do these actions only on Valentine’s Day. If someone’s special appreciate them every day not only on the holidays, and there is no need to get a larger than life teddy bear, a simple “thanks for being there for me” should have the same or even more value than any factory made gift.

valentines day is just like any other day except most people waste money on buying stuff so baiscally retailers are making more money. if you really love someone you should show them thru out the whole year not just on that day....
