Early Saturday morning around 2:00AM, after driving home from a party, about three former South Houston students were involved in a car crash that landed them in the hospital. Witnesses say the driver of the vehicle may have been under the influence when he lost control of the vehicle and ended up hitting the side of the school library. Those who were with the young men earlier in the night say they had just left a party and it had been raining. The driver is said to have suffered a broken neck, a broken nose, and had to undergo stitches to his head. His passengers suffered non-life threatening injuries. South Houston Police told the Torch Online that they had initially responded to the 9-1-1 call, but PISD police will take over the investigation. We contacted SHHS police officers, but all they could do was confirm that the accident occurred. The school's outdoor surveillance camera apparently caught the whole ordeal. The Torch Online was able to obtain a picture of the damaged vehicle taken by one of the passengers. The school’s estimated cost for the damages are said to be in the thousands and could take a few weeks to repair. The librarians say for now, the science book section will not be accessible to students.
