Officer Vela along with assistant principal, Mr. Hill, are making sure all unauthorized personal have a visitors pass, teachers keep their doors locked during instruction time, that school entrances are locked so all visitors must go through the main office and check in. Officer Vela assures student safety is the upmost important to the South Houston High School staff and it is there goal to maintain a safe learning environment. Many student say there is a sense of anxiety after the Newtown massacre. "Sometimes you just don't feel as safe anymore," said Senior, Victor Guerrero. "You never know when a crazy person will try coming into our school to kill people." "I think or our teachers and adminstrators are doing a good job keeping us safe," said Senior, Kendelynn Marshall. "It's sad what happened in Newton." SHHS started the week off with a moment of silence to honor the victims.
