The Great Chicken Kick
November 8, 2012By Clarissa Marroquin of South Houston High School
This past Saturday SHHS participated in the Great Chicken Kick sponsored by Chick-Fil-A. Two teachers from separate schools were selected to play. The game is played by starting off on the five yard line and making the field goal. If both players made it than they were to go back five more yards until someone missed. Our participant was no other than SHHS biology teacher Mr. Escobedo.
“Mr. Zuniga asked me to do it because he knew that I used to play soccer when I went here,” said Escobedo. “I wasn’t nervous to do the Great Chicken Kick because I had no problem representing our school.”
Before the game started there was a coin toss to determine how it would be played out. Mr. Escobedo won the toss so his strategy was to kick after the other contestant. They both made the five yard so off to the ten yard line. They both made the ten yard line so back another five. At the fifteen yard line, the other teacher missed. Mr. Escobedo then realized that it was all on him, but he didn’t let that get to him. He kicked the ball and it flew perfectly into the field goal.
SHHS won the Great Chicken Kick. The prize for beating the other school was free Chick-Fil-A for all students who showed there ID the next day, free breakfast for staff, and Mr. Escobedo himself won a Chick-Fil-A cow and coupons for five free meals. Congratulations and thank you Mr. Escobedo for representing our school and winning with a great kick!
