Home » General News"Cell-ebrating" SHHS's New Cell Phone PolicySeptember 15, 2012 By Hilario Duarte of South Houston High SchoolFrom iPhones, to HTC's, to even your non-smart phones... no more hiding... no more fear of getting confinscated. South Houston High School students can now openly use their cell phones in school, but only at one place. According to the new cell phone policy recently instated by the principals, students are now allowed to use their cell phones during their lunch period and only in the cafeteria. This new policy has many students celebrating. "I like that," said Vanessa Contreras, a sophomore. Fabiola Hernandez said, " I think it is awesome that we can use our cell phones in lunch." "I feel more comfortable using my cell phone now, no more trying to hide it from teachers," added Lilibeth Cardinas "I think it's a wonderful opportunity to use your cell phone during school," said Eduardo a 10th grader. Some students unwittinglyly pull their cell phones out as they are heading to lunch, only to have the assistant principal, Mr. Hill, wait near the cafeteria door to confinscate them. He clarifies that the policy protects only students inside the cafeteria. Students must pay a $15 fine to get their cell phones back.
Students are very excited about this new policy.
