Summer is Last Chance for Class of 2016 to Meet 10/7 Core Credit Standards

With their junior year coming to a close, athletes in the class of 2016 have only summer school left as a last chance to meet the NCAA's new 10/7 credit requirement and remain eligible for DI Qualifier status.

 

Once their senior year starts in fall, a minimum of 10 core course credits must have been completed, including 7 in English, math or science, or they cannot achieve NCAA DI Qualifier status to play as a college freshman. 

 

Also, the 10 core course credits completed are "locked in" for NCAA core course GPA calculations, meaning no senior year retakes for a better grade.

 

Sophomores Need to Stay on Track

Your current sophomore athletes (2017) should already be tracking their core courses each semester so that they are aware of 10/7 credit deficiencies and can make schedule adjustments and/or retake classes to earn a better grade.

 

Unlike the current junior class, they have a year left to make corrections. But, they need to first be aware of any problems so they know what to fix. 

 

Freshmen Face a Double Whammy

As if the 2016 NCAA DI initial-eligibility changes weren't enough, the current freshmen athletes (2018) are the first class also required to meet increased standards for DII initial-eligibility.

 

Don't let them leave for the summer without entering their classes into their CoreCourseGPA.com account. Freshman year is a tough transition for many, and grades can suffer. Get them started tracking core courses now while there is time for retakes and course adjustments.

 

Summer Curriculum Changes?

Summer is typically a busy time for curriculum changes. If your school adds, drops or changes any courses, remember to submit those changes to the NCAA Eligibility Center and also send a quick email to support@corecoursegpa.com so we can update your approved core course list in our software.
