Track teams host relay event, boys finish 4th, girls 6th

May 8, 2014
Southport High School

The boys and girls track team hosted the Southport relays on Saturday, April 24. Both teams did well with the boys placing 4th and the girls 6th. The teams that participated in the meet were: Terre Haute South, Pike, Warren Central, Fishers, Fort Wayne Snider, Beech Grove, Noblesville and Southport.

According to Head Coach Mr. Nathan Fishel the girls team wasn’t at full strength because they were missing a few people.

“Overall we did okay, both teams competed well. Mostly it was an experience-gainer, and a big stepping stone in the growth process,” Fishel said.

Senior Clayton Bowie performed exceptionally well and won the two-mile race and set a new meet record for Southport. According to Fishel, the teams also performed well in long jump and high jump.

Overall the team is still looking to improve as the season progresses and Fishel has high hopes for both teams.

The team’s next meet will be tonight. They will travel to Warren Central for the Warren Relays. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
