Baseball team's losing streak grows to double digits

May 8, 2014
Southport High School

The boys varsity baseball team is on a 10-game losing streak. They lost to Southside rival Perry Meridian 8-7, Lawrence North 6-3, Bloomington South 7-4 and both New Castle games. The first one 9-1, and the second 14-5. The Cards faced Columbus East yesterday and lost 7-1.

Their total batting average is .273, with 19 stolen bases, a 4.23 ERA and a .911 fielding percentage. Seniors Wyatt Cullom, A.J. Wampler and Antonio Cortez have a combined total of 42 hits and 20 RBIs.

“I was pleased about yesterday’s game; we bounced back from an extremely good team,” head coach Mr. Scott Whitlock said. “We went 1-1 going into the 6th inning we just had one bad hand and gave up five runs.”

The Cards play Franklin Central tomorrow at home at 6 p.m. The game will start in the top of the third with the Cards up by one run.

Go out and support the Cards.
