Boys team finishes second while girls finsh first again in 3-way meet

April 23, 2014
Southport High School

The boys and girls track team hosted a track meet on Wednesday, April 16. The three teams there were Southport, Zionsville and Arsenal Tech.

The girls took first place comfortably, beating both teams. According to head coach Nathan Fishel, Tech brought good sprinters and jumpers, but struggled in distance and throwing. Key runners for the girls were junior Alexa Walker and freshman Bailey Fields, who won the 300m hurdles.

The boys track team did beat Tech in the meet, but lost to Zionsville by 12 points.

“12 points in a track meet is very close, if a few places in one event would have been flip-flopped we would have won the meet,” Fishel said.

People who performed well for the boys include senior Sanchez Miller, junior Devin Walker and sophomores Cooper Davis and Charlie Stroub, among others.

The track meet tonight has been canceled because of communication issues, but the girls track team will take on Perry Meridian tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m.

Be sure to support the Lady Cardinals.
