Girls track team finishes first, boys finish second in first meet of outdoor season

April 16, 2014
Southport High School

The boys and girls track team traveled to Whiteland for their first outdoor track meet of the season last Thursday. It was a three-way meet between Franklin Community, Southport and the host, Whiteland.

According to head coach Nathan Fishel, the girls track team ran well, and as a result of that they placed first overall, with key performances from junior Alexa Walker in sprints and sophomore Delaney Bucker in distance.

The boys team finished the meet in second, despite being ahead the majority of the meet. Fishel thinks they too ran well, but he believes they were capable of coming in first.

“It was our first real meet of the season, and I think both teams learned a lot,” Fishel said.

Tonight the Cards are hosting a duel match against Arsenal Tech high school, it’s the first time in a few years that Southport is able to host a track meet, due to the renovations to the football field and track last year.

The track meet is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

Come out and support your boys in girls track team in their first home meet.
