Boys basketball team manhandles Greenwood

February 24, 2014
Southport High School

The boys basketball continued their win streak after dominating Greenwood, Tuesday (Feb. 18), 86-60.

The team started out strong taking the lead in the first quarter, 26-9. Simpson believes they shot well in the first quarter only missing a few shots.

In the second quarter Southport didn’t play as well on defense, according to Simpson, it was because they tried to play too aggressive on defense and attempted to steal the ball too much, and that gets the team into trouble.

In the second half the team made an adjustment and picked it up defensively. They also continued to share the ball well throughout the second half

“I thought the kids responded well, took care of business and did what they were supposed to do,” Simpson said.

The team hopes this win will translate into tomorrow’s home game against Roncalli.

Two months ago, the team faced Roncalli in the Shelbyville shootout, and lost.

According to Simpson the team didn’t play nearly as well as they could have, he thinks they looked tired yet they still were ahead at the half by nine.

Simpson thinks the team is better than they were two months ago.

He knows that it will be a tough task to beat Roncalli because they are a good team, but if they continue to play how they have been they should be able to win.

The game will be tomorrow, Feb. 25 at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Come out and support the Cards.
