February 24, 2014Southport High School
The boys swimming team swam at the first part of the Sectional meet last Thursday, Feb. 20. The meet consisted of 11 teams, including rival school Perry Meridian who, according to assistant coach Mr. Josef Horvath, was the team’s biggest competition.
According to Horvath, the team was really successful at the Sectional meet, even though many of the swimmers didn’t make it to the Sectional finals.
“We swam really well at Sectionals,” Horvath said. “We may not have had many people qualify for finals, but everyone dropped around five to six seconds on their times. Also, two of our relays made it to finals. I am really proud of the team for their accomplishments at Sectionals.”
Key swimmers, according to Horvath, for the Cards: (seniors) James Paden and Alex McSwain, who “both dropped a lot of time.” The 200-yard freestyle relay team who made it to finals consisted of Paden, McSwain, (senior) Joseph Morris and (junior) Anthony Bueckers.
Horvath was really happy with the Sectional meet.
“I was really proud of the boys at Sectionals,” Horvath said. “Our hopes are for dropping even more time in the finals of Sectionals.”
The team will competed last Saturday as well, the results are pending until final times are posted on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
