Cards win three of four over winter break
January 16, 2014Southport High School
Over the recent winter break the boys basketball team played a series of games including a tournament at Shelbyville.
Going into break the boys were 1-4 and come out of break being 4-5, which means the boys had a fairly successful break.
The first day of break the boys traveled to Bloomington North and won their second game of the season, 69-55.
“We played well in that game, and some really good things,” head coach Mr. Kyle Simpson said.
Later in the break the teamed traveled to Shelbyville in which they beat the host, 76-65. In the second round they lost to Roncalli by seven.
“There was a point in the first half when we were ahead by 14 and we just squandered the lead,” Simpson said.
The Cards started the new year strong with a win at home against Manual, 74-63, which put them at 4-5 for the season.
The Cards won three of their four games over break, and are continuing to show improvement. According to Simpson, the defense needs to improve, but offensively the team is doing some really good things most of the time.
Simpson hopes the team can translate the recent success through the remainder of the season in preparation for the postseason.
Southport will be hosting the County semi-finals this Friday starting at 6:00 p.m. the two games are Park Tudor vs. North Central and Warren Central vs. Franklin Central.
The Cards next game is not until next Wednesday, Jan. 22 against Franklin Central. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Come out and support the Cards as they continue their quest for a conference title.
