Boys team gets first win of the year, girls lose second straight

December 18, 2013
Southport High School

The Cards faced off against Cathedral last Saturday, Dec. 14, where the boys team picked up their first win of the season and the girls lost their second match of the season putting their records at 1-4 for the boys, and 3-2 for the girls.  According to assistant coach Mr. Josef Horvath, the team didn't do their best.

"The swimming wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either," Horvath said.  "We weren't dropping time like we should.  I hope this doesn't continue into the County meet, which we've started preparing for by switching out of practicing in meters.  We usually practice in meters to make yards seem much easier."

Key points for the boys team were scored by the 400-yard Freestyle relay team of (seniors) James Paden, Josef Morris, Alex McSwain and (junior) Anthony Bueckers.  They all scored below 56 seconds and Bueckers led with his 54.98.  Also, (freshman) Daniel Stevens placed first for the Cards in diving.

"For the girls it was just a numbers thing," Horvath said.  "Where we filled one relay team they could fill three."

The Cards next meet is this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20 and 21.  The Cards will compete in the County meet over at IUPUI.  The matches are scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Come out and support the Cards in their efforts at County this week.
