Girls basketball team slowly cutting down on turnovers

December 5, 2013
Southport High School

The girls basketball team has a total of 110 turnovers in their six games. Averaging 18 turnovers a game the Lady Cards have started to reduce that number slowly over their last two contests. They had a total of 88 turnovers their first four games, but have worked hard to decrease those numbers having a total of 22 on their last two games.

“Cutting those turnovers in over half have been a big part of the reason we are winning, we just need to keep on scoring and always play like we are down,” said head coach Miss Leah Enterline.

One thing Enterline says her team needs to improve on is free throws. The Lady Cards are averaging 58 percent. Making 61 out of 106 free throws Enterline wants her team to improve for games later to come.

“Some of the reason why we have been down so much when we could’ve been keeping up with them is because of our free throws. I want us to be making at least 80 percent,” Enterline said.

The Lady Cards hope to continue to cut down on their turnovers and improve their free throw percentage when they travel to Bloomington North for the next game this Friday, Dec. 6. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
