Boys soccer team ends season with close regional loss
October 30, 2013Southport High School
The boys soccer team won the Sectional title against south side rival Perry Meridian by a score of 2-0 on Oct. 12. The Cards have won two sectional championships in a row and three in the past four years.
“They pretty much parked the bus in front of the goal, and played six or seven defenders. Once we scored, we were able to open them up and put the game away,” head coach Mr. Josh Brown said.
Brown said that they didn’t practice anything new, just the same concepts they did in the season.
The Cards entered the first round of Regionals against Center Grove on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The Cards lost that game by a score of 1-2.
“It was a well-played game, and we had our chances late to tie it up,” Brown said.
Junior Van Lian ended this season with a total of 35 points, 15 of those were goals. He doesn’t know exactly how well the team will transition into next season.
“I was happy with all of our wins this year. We have a lot of players graduating this year so I don’t know what will happen next year,” Lian said.
The Cards ended their season with a record 12-4-1 with 11 of the 12 wins being shutouts. The team is graduating their entire defense.
Thank you for supporting the soccer team this season.
