August 20, 2013Southport High School
Head coach Mr. Dennis Bruce and his teams of runners are ready for this year’s season. The boys’ cross country team started running during the second week of June and has continually run after school including weight training three days a week.
This year’s team only has four seniors and two juniors so the team has a lot of newer runners.
“We are a young team the freshmen are really fighting for spots,” Bruce said. “We also have four strong runners it’s just about finding the fifth runner.”
Bruce would like to get top four in conference as well as top four in county. He believes and is confident that his runners will make it to sectionals and maybe even regionals. The top goal for Bruce is to advance his seniors to state.
“I want us succeeding in our meets and just trying to get better,” senior Clayton Bowie said. “I also want us to make it to state.
According to Bruce the sophomore class has really improved from last season and is excited to see how they do. He also mentioned a freshman runner that is exceeding well, Dominick Farino.
The first meet is the Carmel Classic on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 9:00 a.m. The first home meet is on September 11 against Perry Meridian at 5:30 p.m. at Southport Middle School, so go out and support your cards.
