Home » Boys' Golf NewsCardinal Profile: Alex CawthorneMarch 20, 2013 Southport High SchoolSophomore Alex Cawthorne has been playing golf ever since he could walk. “I remember getting my first plastic set of clubs when I was about 3 years old,” Cawthorne said. Cawthorne said he started playing golf because he had fun playing the sport and every one in his family plays. “My mom and dad were both golf professionals,” Cawthorne said. “They both played college golf too. Both my grandpas played competitive golf, so pretty much everyone in my family is a golfer.” Cawthorne played for the school last year. He said the season went pretty good, but they didn’t make it out of sectionals but they were competitive. According to Cawthorne he thinks he personally did pretty well also. “I played number two spot for the team and my score contributed to the team almost every time,” Cawthorne said. This season Cawthorne thinks he will do even better than last year. “It’s been off to a slow start because of the weather but it will be alright,” Cawthorne said. Cawthorne has a younger brother named Chase Cawthorne; he is a freshman this year. Alex and Chase will be playing together this year. “’Sometimes I enjoy playing with my brother,” Cawthorne said. “We both get mad at each other on the golf course, but in the end we work it out.” Alex plans on playing golf after high school. “I would love to go somewhere south,” Cawthorne said. “So I could play golf year round and get better.” Come out and support your Cards golf team this season.
