Wrestler strives for school record

February 7, 2013
Southport High School

Southport wrestler, sophomore Dameion Rutledge went into regionals with high hopes.

“I think it’s going to go good,” Rutledge said.

Rutledge was looking to break the record for the most wins in a season. The record is 39. Graduate Brian Boucher holds this record.

“I feel real good about it.” Rutledge said. “I’m going to break the record this year, then break it again next year and break it even more my senior year.”

Rutledge says he just wants to see his name on the wall of fame.

Rutledge ended up finishing in 6th place with a record of 37-10. He missed beating the record by three wins. He still plans on shooting for his goals in the next few years.
