Girls basketball team wins on senior day and looks ahead to tough sectional
February 4, 2013By Nick Holland of Southport High School
The Lady Cards basketball team lost to host Mooresville 75-39 last Thursday (Jan. 31).
The Pioneers were 15-4 after winning and the Cards fell to 8-10.
The Lady Cards then took on Columbus East this past Saturday (Feb. 2). This was the final home game for the Lady Cards this season and the seniors on the team, Ja’Breena Gardner, Grace Clark and Bria Wright were recognized.
The Lady Cards snuck by with a 59-58 win against the Olympians. This win improved their record to 9-10.
The Lady Cards are now preparing for their opening round sectional game vs. Brownsburg. The Lady Bulldogs are 17-3 this season and are led by University of North Carolina commit Stephanie Mavunga. Mavunga leads the scoring attack for Brownsburg with 463 points so far this season.
If the Lady Cards want to come out with a win, they’re going to have to slow down Mavunga and be able to overcome the rest of the Brownsburg team.
If the Lady Cards win they will play the winner of Ben Davis and Decatur Central.
Brownsburg will host the entire sectional and this game will be this Wednesday (Feb. 6), and is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
