Cards basketball has full weekend ahead

February 1, 2013
Southport High School

The Southport varsity boys basketball team will host rival Perry Meridian tonight at 7:30p.m, Louie Dampier will also have his number retired tonight in between the junior varsity and varsity game.

Even though it is head coach Mr. Kyle Simpson first year coaching at Southport he is very well aware of the Southport, Perry Meridian rivalry.

“When I coached at Bloomington South we had a strong rivalry with Bloomington North, so I am aware of this rivalry and my players and staff have informed me on the history of the rivalry,” Simpson said.

In order to get a win tonight Simpson believes the team will have to disrupt the tempo of Perry’s offense and find a way to generate offense against Perry’s 3-2 zone.

Simpson also thinks it is cool to be able to see Louie Dampier have his number retired at tonight’s game.

“The team doesn’t know the magnitude he made and the impact he made in the community,” Simpson said. “My dad and granddad watched him play in college and I get to finally meet him so it’ll be a special night.”

The team will also host Fishers this Saturday.

Come out and support your Cards this weekend.
