Cards basketball team loses to Pike, looks to take down Columbus North

By Nick Holland of Southport High SchoolThe boys varsity basketball team hosted Pike on Saturday, January 19. The Cards lost 69-52.
Head varsity coach Mr. Kyle Simpson thought the team played hard and was pleased with the team.
“We competed and played hard during the game,” Simpson said.
Sophomore Malik Bennett led the Cards with 27 points. Junior Tim Jewell had 16 points, sophomore Demari Davis led the team in rebounds and assists with six rebounds and three assists. Senior Quinton Sanders also played hard for the Cards, Simpson said.
Simpson thought his team just ran out of steam in the second half of the game.
In practice Simpson plans on concerning on the team and doing things to better themselves.
The Cards will travel to Columbus North tomorrow, Thursday, (Jan. 24.)
The Bulldogs are ranked number three in the state, and have a 14-1 record. The Bulldogs are an experienced team that is playing very well said Simpson.
In order to get a win tonight Simpson believes the team will need to rebound, take care of the ball and be patient on offense.
