“It wasn’t a good meet for us,” head coach Mr. Matthew Jeffries said. “The team didn’t swim well in all aspects. We weren’t into it that day.”
Main swimmers for the Cards were juniors Alex McSwain and James Paden, and freshman Delaney Bucker.
The Cards then hosted Warren Central and Lawrence Central last Tuesday (Jan.22). The girls won both meets and the boys lost both meets. The scores went as follows:
Southport vs. Lawrence Central Southport vs. Warren Central
Girls: Southport-84 Lawrence Central-82 Girls: Southport-93 Warren Central-75
Boys: Lawrence Central-122 Southport-53 Boys: Warren Central-114 Southport-58
“It was a really good meet,” Jeffries said. “We had really good swims even with people sick. Some swam sick others weren’t there. We have some girls who are ready for Sectionals.”
It was senior night last night. The Cards honored seniors Sarah Barnhart, Carly Chappell, Logan Collins, Jake Johnston, and Janet McVay.
One of the Cards main performers was McVay. She swam in the 100-yard freestyle and got a time of 1:11.
“The meet was pretty awesome for the girls,” McVay said. “I felt everyone was focused. It was a good last home meet for us. Sectionals are coming up which gets me excited and nervous. I hope all of the hard work pays off.”
The Cards next meet is this Saturday (Jan. 26). The boys will be heading to Columbus North for the Conference Indiana meet. The meet is scheduled for 9a.m.
