Cards swim teams fall to Franklin Community

January 17, 2013
Southport High School

Last Tuesday (Jan. 15), the Cards swimming team swam against Franklin Community.  Franklin Community won both the boys and girls meets.  The scores were as follows:

Boys: Franklin-146, Southport-34                      Girls: Franklin-140, Southport-45

“We did pretty well,” head coach Mr. Matthew Jeffries said.  “We had our swimmers swim different events than they normally swim.  The other team wanted to do it to get their swimmers out of their normal routine.”

Some of the swimmers with new best times were freshman Delaney Bucker, sophomores Anthony Bueckers and Dennis Craig, junior Alex McSwain, and seniors Carly Chappell and Sarah Barnhart.  Another key performer for the team was sophomore Josh Vidito.  He got a time of 28:59 in the 50-yard free.

“I honestly thought I did terrible,” Vidito said.  “I messed up my flip turn and at the start I came up too early.  This means I’ll get a better time if I can fix my mistakes.  I want to get a time of 25 before the season ends.”

The Cards host their next meet this Saturday (Jan. 19), against Decatur Central.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Come out and support your Cards in their efforts.
