Cardinal Profile: Malik Bennett

January 16, 2013
Southport High School

Sitting out a little less than half of the season was tough for sophomore Malik Bennett. Bennett transferred here from Pike.

Bennett had to sit out because he participated in a varsity sport at Pike and didn’t move addresses or have a hardship happen in order for him wanting to move. So, the move was classified as purely athletic and he was declared ineligible and had to sit out seven games.

While Bennett was sitting out he did certain things in order to prepare himself for when he got back out on the court.

“I worked hard, practiced with the team, ran on the track in order to get into shape, and did individual drills,” Bennett said.

While Malik is on the court he plans on getting all of his teammates involved.

Malik admits there are a few differences between Pike and Southport.

“Pike is more athletic and they get more coverage,” Bennett said.

Malik however says he enjoys being at Southport.

His role model on the court is LeBron James.

“I like LeBron because he is exciting to watch and an all-around player,” Bennett said.

Off the court his mother is his role model.

“She takes good care of me, disciplines me, and keeps me out of trouble,” Bennett said.

Bennett plans on working hard during the season and after the season is over.

Bennett is confident the team will finish their season up better and will be even better next year.
