Lady Cards swim team finishes Conference Indiana meet
January 15, 2013Southport High School
Last Saturday (Jan. 12), the girls swimming team was at Columbus North for the Conference Indiana meet. Southport came in 8th out of eight teams. The scores went as follows,
Columbus North-518, Bloomington South-372, Perry Meridian-267, Bloomington North-261, Franklin Central-233, Pike-180, Lawrence Central-120, Southport-105
“Some of the girls did well, but some didn’t,” head coach Mr. Matthew Jeffries said. “Attitudes weren’t in the right place, except for a few. We’ve tried talking to them, but some just won’t change.”
Key performers for the Cards were seniors Carly Chappell and Sarah Barnhart. Chappell came in 9th in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:09.66.
“This was my best time at this event and my best swim all season,” Chappell said. “I wish I could’ve gotten eighth because then I could’ve been on the podium. I was just a little nervous because it was my last Conference meet.”
Barnhart came in 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.09.
“That was my best time in that event and I was really happy with that swim,” Barnhart said. “I was a little nervous because I wanted to break my personal best. I’m happy with how I did for my last Conference meet.”
The Cards, boys and girls, next meet will be tonight (Jan. 15), at Franklin Community. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30p.m.
Come out and support your Cards in their efforts.
