Cards swimming teams lost to Perry Meridian in "swim-off"
January 11, 2013
Southport High SchoolLast night, Jan 10, the Cards swimming team hosted Perry Meridian. Both girls and boys teams lost last night, but this was no ordinary meet. Both Perry Meridian and Southport participated in what is called a swim-off.
“A swim-off is when the seniors pick the events of the swimmers on the team,” assistant coach Mr. Josef Horvath said. “It’s really funny watching the team out of place.”
The team mainly got 2nd’s and 3rd’s, but freshman Jaclyn Boyer pull out a 1st for the girls in the 100-yard backstroke. One of the key performers for the boys was junior Alex McSwain in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.
“I was a little uncomfortable swimming in these events,” McSwain said. “However, these were events that I’m actually familiar with, so it wasn’t that bad.”
In attendance at the meet were Perry Township Superintendent Doctor Thomas Little and Assistant Superintendent Bob Bohannon.
The Cards next meet is the Conference Indiana meet. The Cards and seven other teams will be in the meet. The will be held at Columbus North High School and is scheduled to begin at 9:00a.m.
Come out and support your Cards in their efforts.
