Cards swimming teams have "best meet of year"

January 11, 2013
Southport High School

The Cards swimming team hosted Greenwood Tuesday, Jan. 8.  The scores went as follows:

Girls: Greenwood-116 Southport-76

Boys: Greenwood-99 Southport-92

“It was our best meet of the year,” head coach Mr. Matthew Jeffries said.  “Everyone had good attitudes and went hard at their events.  There were 36 personal bests made.”

One of the girl’s best performances of the night was freshman Delaney Bucker getting 1st in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:02.  Other good performances for the girls were made by freshmen Caroline Chappell and Jaclyn Boyer, and seniors Carly Chappell and Sarah Barnhart.

One of the boy’s best performances was by sophomore Anthony Bueckers in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle.

“Everyone did really well,”Bueckers said.  “I felt faster than normal, but I need to rotate my arms faster and need a tight stream line.  I will be going harder in practice in order to improve even more.”

Other good performances were given by sophomores Riley Owens and Dennis Craig, junior Alex McSwain and senior Jake Johnston.  Johnston also dove for the Cards and took 2nd place.

Come out and support your Cards in the efforts.
