Cards swimming teams place at Marion County meet
December 18, 2012Southport High School
The boys and girls swimming team attended the Marion County last Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15. The girls came in 13th out of 15 teams and the boys came in 15th out of 15 teams. The girls ended with a score of 49 and the boys ended with 16.
“All three of the relays, boys and girls, qualified for the second day of the meet,” assistant coach Mr. Josef Horvath said.
Besides the relays, senior Carly Chappell was a call back for the 100-yard butterfly and both Chappell and freshman Jaclyn Boyer went for the 100-yard backstroke.
“I didn’t know what to expect the first day and was nervous,” Boyer said. “The second day was, in my opinion, the better of the two meets for me.”
The boys also had their positives at the meet. Junior James Paden and freshman Sam Collins were both important parts of the boy’s squad.
“All the guys dropped times,” Paden said. “I could’ve done better if I were used to the pool.”
“I didn’t gain or drop any time, but did okay,” Collins said. “I hope I get enough rest to improve next meet.”
Winter break is coming up and the teams will practice every day, except for Christmas Day. The team will be working on yardage, flip turns and starts.
“We have two meets over break as well,” Horvath said.
The first meet will be Thursday, Jan. 3, against Speedway. The meet will be held here at Southport and is scheduled to begin at 5:30p.m. The second meet will be held Saturday, Jan 5, at Perry Meridian for the Falcon Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:00a.m.
Come out and support the Cards in their efforts.
