November 26, 2012
Southport High SchoolThe Cards boys basketball team lost to Decatur Central Wednesday Nov. 21. The score of the game was 38-80.
Varsity head coach Mr. Kyle Simpson said the team has a lot of areas they need to improve in.
“We need to put ourselves in positions to score, compete all four quarters, and be in better positions defensively,” Simpson said.
Simpson also said the team did do some things well in Wednesday’s game.
“We were active in the second quarter of the game, trapped well in a 1-3-1 defense, and fought back from being down 16-4 and got within eight points,” Simpson said.
Sophomore forward Demari Davis led the team in stats with seven points, six rebounds, and two blocks.
In practice Simpson plans on working on basic fundamental skills.
The Cards basketball team also played Brownsburg. The game was on Saturday, Nov. 24. The team lost 27-62.
Assistant varsity coach Mr. Bil Duany said that the team has a lot of new varsity players and is lacking varsity experience.
Junior guard Thomas Garrett agrees.
“We are young and rebuilding,” Garrett said.
The team will host Ben Davis Saturday, Dec.1 at 7:30 P.M.
