Home » Bowl Game NewsGirls bowling team to continue season with key returnersNovember 13, 2012 Southport High SchoolMr. Jeff Thomas, the Southport girls’ varsity bowling head coach has big expectations for his team this season. “I fully expect to compete for a conference title, as well as a sectional title,” Thomas said. In despite of the big expectations for this season Thomas still wants to have fun and enjoy representing Southport High School. The team lost one starter and two key reserves, but the team’s remaining six players are more than capable of improving enough to offset those losses according to Thomas. Sophomore Rachel Burwell is the team’s highest average returner, but Thomas said the team doesn’t revolve around one player. “The team contains a lot of depth and every kid on this team has shot a career high at one point in time,” Thomas said. Thomas believes Roncalli will give the team the most competition this season along with Conference Indiana foe Franklin Central. “We had three extremely competitive matches with Roncalli last season and they did not graduate any of their players, they will be our biggest challenge this season,” Thomas said. Thomas believes the team needs to improve on their consistency and improve on their spare shooting. In addition, the team needs to realize that they have achieved success and need to build on that instead of being complacent. In practice Thomas prepares his team by working on spare shooting and playing a lot of games. Come out and support your Lady Cards bowling team this season, the team will play again Nov. 19 against Franklin Central. Brooklyn Raines SHS News Bureau
