Home » Girls' Basketball NewsLady Cards crack under pressure vs. Center GroveNovember 9, 2012 Southport High SchoolThe varsity girls basketball team lost to Center Grove yesterday by a score of 47-65. The Lady Cards were only down by one point at the half but couldn’t handle the constant ball pressure from the Lady Trojans. The game really boiled down to which team made the most mistakes. Each team had multiple players with at least five steals. Head coach Mrs. Leah Enterline said the team needs to work on boxing out and taking shots under pressure. “We got outrebounded by 20,” Enterline said. “We really need to work on taking good shots at game speeds. Because anybody can take a good shot in practice, but if there is no game speed involved then when there is pressure during a game they will panic and take bad shots. That was the case this time.” Seniors Bria Wright and Jabreena Gardner were named co-players of the game for the Lady Cards. Gardner contributed 15 points with Wright following close behind with 13. Each player helped the team with seven and six steals, respectively. Wright said that despite the loss, the team is still working hard and continuing to get closer on and off the court. “We will always do things together,” Wright said. “Everything to before the game, after the game, and practice, everything we do is always together.” Enterline hopes the team can come together and work hard at practice on being physical and working on game speed shots. The Lady Cards next game will be this Saturday, November 10. The game will be against Hauser Junior-Senior high school and will be in the historic Southport Fieldhouse. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. Come out and support your Lady Cards. Nick Holland SHS News Bureau
