Cards tennis season ends with sectional loss

September 28, 2012
Southport High School

The Cards tennis team lost yesterday, Sept. 27, to Decatur Central in the first round of the Sectional matches 0-5.  Decatur will go on to face Perry Meridian, who won against Scecina.

The Cards line-up for the match was:

  • 1 singles junior Alex Darland
  • 2 singles junior Daniel Carson
  • 3 singles freshman Stephen Broadhead
  • 1 doubles senior Austin Stephenson and junior Billy Cross
  • 2 doubles sophomore Adam Coomes and freshman Jared Hunsicker

Hunsicker and Coomes lost a close match yesterday losing 5-7 and 4-6. Broadhead also had a close match losing only 1-6, 5-7.

“We showed improvement throughout the season.  We started with Decatur and finished with Decatur,” head coach Mr. Harry Schwartz said.

“Though we’ve lost multiple seniors over the past few years I think the rookies gained a lot of experience this year,” Schwartz said.  “I hope we learned for next season.”

This was the last match of the season for the Cards so thank you anyone that came out and supported the Cards in their efforts.
