Home » Football NewsCards football wins big but lose senior for rest of yearSeptember 17, 2012 By Nick Holland of Southport High SchoolThe Cards football team won the homecoming game against the Bloomington South Panthers this past Friday, September 14. The final score of the game was Cards 56, Panthers 33. But with this win came the loss of senior defensive end Max Doughty for the rest of the season who broke his jaw early in the first half. Head coach Mr. Bill Peebles said despite the loss of Doughty the team still played well. “We didn’t have any turnovers,” Peebles said. “We [played really well offensively and I thought we overcame a lot of adversity to win.” The Cards completed more than 70% of their passes and racked up more than 500 yards of total offense. The player of the game for the Cards was junior Tim Jewell who had a receiving TD and a return punt for a TD. Peebles was proud of the way his team handled the game and followed the scouting report. “We handled their best player (senior) Matt Henderson,” Peebles said. “We really followed the scouting report well and that helped us win the game. Now we are going to move on to FC next week and prepare for another big conference game.” The Cards will take on Franklin Central next Friday, September 21. It will be an away game for the Cards and will begin a three game road trip as well. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Come out and support your Cards. Nick Holland SHS News Bureau
