Cards soccer splits two at Westfield Invite

September 10, 2012
Southport High School

The Cards soccer team traveled to the Westfield Invitational this past Saturday, September 8. They played two games, one of which was against Northwestern High School which is located in Kokamo.

The Cards tied this game with a score of 2-2. Scoring for the Cards were junior Austin Crosley and freshman Bawi Cung. The game went to penalty kicks which the Cards managed to win on after making all five of their PKs and then junior Caleb Bernhard made a “great save” to seal the win for the Cards.

Head coach Mr. Josh Brown thought that even though the team won, they didn’t play like they should’ve.

“We played very poorly,” he said. “We probably did not deserve to win that game.”

The second game against the host school, 14 ranked Westfield, did not go quite as planned for the Cards either. They lost the game 6-1, with the lone goal being scored by junior Lawm Bik.

Brown was not very happy about how his team performed in this game either.

“We came out flat,” he said. “We gave up five first half goals and didn’t seem to settle down until the second half when we started to figure things out and play better.”

These games push the Cards record to a positive 5-4. The Cards hope to further improve their record with games against Franklin Central tomorrow, September 11, and Lawrence Central this Thursday, September 13.

Both games will be away and are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Come out and support your Cards.
