Boys and Girls track compete in Southport Relays

April 23, 2012
By Nick Holland of Southport High School

Both the boys and girls track teams competed at the annual Southport Relays this past Saturday, April 21. The finished in sixth and seventh places respectively.

The teams competed well according to head coach Mr. Nathan Fishel and despite not having any individual winners to show for it he thinks the team is developing nicely.

However, FIshel also believes that the teams still have a lot to develop in order to be better.

“We are a very young team,” Fishel said. “All the other teams are older and have more experience and that’s just something we lack. In two or three years I expect us to be right up there with the likes of Pike and (Lawrence Central).

The girls team hopes to build on this performance when they travel to Pike High School on Friday April 27 at 5:00 p.m. for the Conference Indiana meet.

The boys team hopes that they can improve from this finish when the travel to south side rival Perry Meridian tomorrow, Tuesday April 24, the meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
