Girls track loses to North Central

April 17, 2012
By Nick Holland of Southport High School

The girls track team lost last Thursday, April 12, when they traveled to North Central High School.

Despite the loss, the lady Cards produced winners in a couple of events. Senior Abby Springer won both hurdles events. Junior Sydney Barger won the pole vault event and the 4x400 meter relay team of seniors Juanesha Byrd, Springer, freshmen Brandi Ford and Micah Harvey-King.

Head coach Mr. Nathan Fishel was pleased with the team’s sprinters but he was extremely disappointed with the other areas of the team.

“We are a soft distance team,” Fishel said. “I mean four out of the sixteen events in track are distance and we didn’t place in a single one of them. You’re not going to win meets that way.”

He plans on having the team work harder on their distance while also keeping their sprinters consistent.

The lady Cards hope to have these problems fixed when they face township rival Perry Meridian on Wednesday April 18 at 4:30.
