Home » Baseball NewsBallard Invite resultsApril 16, 2012 Southport High SchoolThe baseball team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to play in the Ballard invitational over spring break. The Cardinals played three games, and picked up three losses. In game one, Carmel came out hot, beating the Cards 11-5 on Thursday, April 5. Carmel scored seven runs in the top of the first inning. Although the Cardinals dug a deep hole early, they out-scored Carmel 5-4 the rest of the game. Senior Brian Boucher started on the bump for the Cards. Junior Taylor DeHart hit well going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a stolen base. In game two, Ballard high school took the game, winning 6-2 on Friday, April 6. Head coach Mr. Scott Whitlock says the team, approached the game very well. He mentions that Ballard is a very good team and Senior Tyler Carr threw very well for five full innings. Boucher went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk. Also, Senior Casey Domek went 3-for-3 at the plate. "I thought that was the best we had played all year, until our next game," Whitlock said. The Cardinals played a tough third and final game against Hunnington North, losing 6-3. Junior Taylor DeHart led the game off with a home run in the first inning. Senior Tyler Wampler also hit well going 3-for-4 at the plate. Senior Kris Kuehr started the game pitching. Whitlock says he did a good job keeping hitters off balance. The game was tied 3-3 going into the sixth inning. However, the Cards gave up three unearned runs that inning. "Our pitching and hitting got better as the games went on," Whitlock said.
