Big win for the Cards

Southport High SchoolThe Cardinals came back from a 14 point deficit to beat the Roncalli Rebels 49-44 on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Head coach Mr. Wes Peek says the team played really well on defense and guarded really well. Also he mentioned how the Cards passed and played as a team really well.
“We only had three guys score,” Peek said. “But you wouldn’t know that unless you looked at the book.”
Senior Kellon Thomas led the team in scoring with 22 points and breaking the school record for most career points scored. Thomas also had 8 rebounds. Senior Mike Ramey scored 18 points. Peek says that seniors Kenneth Hawkins and Kewan Davis stepped up and played well on defense in the second half of the game. Southport outscored the Rebels 43-24 in the last three quarters.
The Cardinals next game is on Friday, Feb. 24 against Mooresville at home. This is senior night for the Cards. The JV contest starts at 6:00 p.m. while Varsity starts right after.
Sectionals for the Cardinals start on Tuesday, Feb. 28 as they take on Avon.
