ShowjumpingIreland Rider Rankings System

March 7, 2012
By John Sheridan of ShowJumping Ireland

ShowjumpingIreland are pleased to announce that from 2012, a Rider Rankings System is being introduced.

The System, will mirror what is in place with the FEI and will be kept on a 12 month rolling basis where Riders will gain points in the relevant month each year.  Points will be gained at all National SJI Shows around the country for classes with a Prize Fund of €1,000 or more with 1 point given for every €10 won by the Rider.  Up to date Rider Rankings will be issued at the beginning of each month.

Starting in February, John Floody, following his win in the Spring Tour at Cavan and placing in Ravensdale, has shot into the Lead ahead of Young Rider Daniel Coyle who won the Spring Tour in Ravensdale and was placed at Kildare International while Liam O'Meara sits in third.

The List for March is one that could highlight further changes with a 1.10m in Killossery worth €1,000 along with several more Spring Tour Classes.  April should again see more changes with the Final rounds of the Spring Tour, a Young Rider International Trials show, a 5 Year Old Championship in Cavan before the start of the Premier Series, National Grand Prix League, ISH Showjumping Series and the Regional Grand Prix Leagues.

ShowjumpingIreland Chairman Christy Murphy commented; ''This initiative should be invaluable to National Show Jumping.  It will be a great addition for Shows that can boast as having the Number 1 Irish Rider present and also for those that have classes carrying Ranking Points.  I see this as something that will be an integral part in the evolution of Irish Show Jumping.''
