FLOODY GIVES STAR PERFORMANCE AT CAVAN
Meath's John Floody took maximum points from Cavan on Sunday in the third leg of the HSI/Blue Grass Spring Tour riding Paula Rafter's PMR Rehy Irish All Star.
A former winner of the Spring Tour, Floody was late in the jump off and produced a thrilling display that had the crowd cheering him all the way to the last fence.
With 21 clears, the class was always going to be very quick with the lead changing hands on several occasions from Edward Little to the eventual winner.
Little, riding Qualischa De Vansichant, set the standard early in the jump off with a time of 35.67. However, it was not long before that lead changed hands when Gerard Clarke steered Colorado to the quicker time of 34.99. Little eventually finished sixth with David Prentice's chestnut mare while Clarke settled for fourth with the very consistent Colorado.
Home based rider Victoria Clarke was next to take the lead with the very impressive Wieder Welt breaking the beam in 34.29 to go marginally in front. Although, she was not long in the lead before Darryl Walker blazed a trail with Alfurist to lead in what looked like a tough time to beat stopping the clock in 33.79.
The class was then handed to John Floody when gave his all with Paula Rafter's PMR Rehy Irish All Star in 33.21 and they remained in the lead to take the third leg of the Tour
Christian Coyle came in after Floody with Athlet Van'T Lozerhof, however, their time was good enough for fifth place and they add more points to their tally following a fine third place at Ravensdale.
Following the class, which was shown Live on www.ihigh.com/showjumpingireland, Floody commented: ''There were a lot of very good riders, very fast ones, so I was delighted to be able to come in at the end and pip them. I have a couple of nice horses at the moment so I hope to attend most of the league and hopefully I'll have a go at the League title again but well see how it goes near the end.''
The HSI/Blue Grass Spring Tour continues next Sunday at Killossery Lodge.
