Cards make furious comeback; defeat Hornets
February 7, 2012Sheldon Clark High School
Magoffin County traveled to Inez where the host Sheldon Clark Cardinals awaited to do battle in 57th District boys basketball action. As in the first game, the Hornets came out on fire and jumped on the Cards early to take a 31-18 halftime lead. Just as the second half started MC would score 2 more on a Cardinal turnover and take the 15 point lead with just over 7 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter but then SC would explode onto the scene. over the next 11 minutes the Cards would go on a 33-7 run to take an 11 point lead at 51-40 but the Hornets would make another run and cut the lead to 4 but that is as close as they would get as SC would hang on for the 62-58 win to improve to 22-5 on the season and 6-1 in district play. They will travel to LC this Thursday for a chance to claim the #1 seed in the district for the 1st time in school history. This night also was Senior and Coronation Night. We honored our two seniors, BJ Moore and Taylor Chapman. They finished in style by being the spark of the comeback by the Cards. A big congrats to Morgan Mooney as she was crowned the first ever Basketball Queen at SC.
