Rockets top Spencer, advance to district championship

May 20, 2009
By Will Barnett of Shelby Co High School

The Rockets led 10-0 after three and a half innings, but Spencer scored three in the bottom of the fourth to stay alive.

However, the Rockets exploded for eight runs in teh sixth to put the game out of reach and coast to the 16-run win in a run-rule shortened six innings. The inning was highlighted by Ben Glassner's bases-loaded rip that bounced off of Spencer County's right fielder's glove. The shot cleared the bases, and put the Rockets safely ahead. Eric Standafer, Matthew Purdom, Jacob Livers and Mark Swisher all had RBIs in the inning.

The boys will face Anderson County in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the SCHS athletic complex.
