Wildcats Hold-Out Hornets

October 26, 2009
By Daniel Porter of Shelby Co. High School

Combining the yards of both offenses Friday, you would come to find out that there were 930 yards of it. Chelsea started with the ball and suprisingly did something that few teams have been able to do against the wildcat's defense this year, and that was drive down the field a score on the opening drive. The Wildcats were able to keep the Hornets out of the endzone and settled for a field goal that gave Chelsea a 0-3 lead. After the kickoff Chad King returned the ball to the Wildcat's 34, only 66 yards to go until a touchdown. Tae Lewis on the first play from scrimmage made the 66 go by quick as he scooted around the end for a long TD run. Wildcats then led 7-3 and after the defense forced a three and out, The Wildcats recieved the ball again where quarterback Braten Dill on the second play from scrimage ran 48 yards for a TD. Wildcats now lead 14-3 after two plays and two touchdowns! The game spriraled out of contro after that when Tae Lewis caught fire later on scoring another rushing touchdown. The Hornets looked like they were falling apart when halftime rolled around, but out of the locker rooms they were ready to fight. Chelsea's Washington kept pace with Lewis' rushing as he had two scores of his own. In the third Shelby County led 40 to 24 when Chelsea scored and converted a two point conversion to pull the game within one possesion at 40-32, but the Wildcats slammed the door finishing out the game scoreing again to seal the deal 47-32.

Chelsea was helped out by reciever Jake Campbell who caught eight passes for 119 yards and a TD to keep close with the Wildcats. While Tae Lewis lit up the score board by himself, rushing for 84 yards and two touchdows while still recieving two touchdowns from 30 and 31 yards out, Kevin McNorton also got in on the action catching a 45 yarder that went for six points. All these weren't enough to prove the game play of senior QB Braten Dill who combined for five tochdowns, three passes (Lewis and McNorton) and two rushing TDs. Next week the Wildcats face the Jemison Panthers, then it appears that no matter how the outcome of the game turns out, Shelby County should face Demopolis in the first round of the state playoffs. Everyone remebers Demopolis from last year when they came into Columbiana and ended the Wildcats 11-0 undefeated Magic Season.
Revenge is sure to be on the minds of many...
