October 4, 2011By Dave Schneider of Mt Pleasant High School
The Mount Pleasant High School Marching Band took home nine awards Saturday as they competed with 31 bands from six states at the 33rd Annual Blue Springs Marching Band Invitational in the metro Kansas City area.
The Panther Marching Band took home top honors in Class 3A field competition and won caption awards for best marching, best general effect, best field percussion, best color guard, and best drum majors – Luke Brau and Hailie Baccam. Luke Brau was also recognized with an Outstanding Soloist award.
The Mount Pleasant drumline and color guard both won first place in an indoor contest, competing with four other schools in their division, based on school size.
Next appearance for the band is October 7 at the 3:00 PM Homecoming parade and at that night's football contest with Chaiton. They will also take part in the Iowa High School Music Association state festival at Muscatine on October 15 and at a competition in Quincy that night.
