Home » Girls' Soccer NewsMP takes #12 Notre Dame To The LimitMay 19, 2011 By Dave Schneider of Mt Pleasant High SchoolAfter dropping a close 1-0 decision to Burlington Notre Dame on the road last month, the Mt. Pleasant Panthers were looking forward to get another crack at them. Their chance came tonight at East Lake Park in the last regular season game at home. After a hard fought game through 80 minutes of play with no score, the #12 Nikes scored in overtime for a 1-0 win. Mt. Pleasant coaches Ed Chabal and Ken Tyrrell were very pleased with the effort. The players were doing a good job of communicating, their passing was good, and the defense was solid. The team now has a week off before state tournament play begins. The Panthers draw a first round bye, then host a regional semi-final game against the winner of Keokuk and Holy Trinity on May 31 at 6:00 PM. Mt. Pleasant has defeated Keokuk twice this season, 3-1 and 2-1, while HTC beat the Panthers 3-1 on the road. In tonight's JV contest, Mt. Pleasant edged Notre Dame 1-0 on a goal by Nicole Coffin after some good passing by Sarah Van Dorin. The Panther girls varsity record is 12-6, which includes a conference chanpionship and the West Liberty Tournament title, while the JV team finishes the season at 9-2-1.
