Mt. Pleasant Music Student In Honor Band
May 5, 2011By Dave Schneider of Mt Pleasant High School
Levi Boston-Kemple, an 8th grade trumpet player in the Mt. Pleasant 7th/8th grade concert band, will be participating in the Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA) All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band in Des Moines on Thursday, May 12.
The IBA All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band is comprised of the
top 8th grade musicians from across the state. Levi earned the position after receiving the highest score among all trumpets in the 17-county area of the Southeast Iowa Bandmasters Association (SEIBA) Honor Band tryouts in January. SEIBA chose the top student at each position to join the top instrumentalists from the other districts around Iowa for this special IBA Honor Band.
The IBA All-Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band will perform as part of the IBA yearly conference, this year held at the Des Moines Marriott Hotel Downtown at 700 Grand Ave. The concert will be held in the Iowa Ballroom at 1:00 PM on May 12 and will be conducted by Larry Clark. The band will rehearse at 8:30 AM in the Iowa Ballroom.
Levi, besides being the first chair trumpet player in the middle school concert band, is also active in jazz band, marching band, and Chain Reaction show choir. Sherry Christensen is the instrumental music director at Mt. Pleasant Middle School.
