Pleasant Community High School, has been chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. She will sing on Monday, March 7, at 10:30 AM before the start of the Class 1A game between Lynnville-Sully and Northern University High. Makenzie is active in music, participating in chorus, show choir, symphonic band, and marching band as the drum major. She has sung the National Anthem at regular-season home basketball games and at last Monday's substate Class 3A game in Ottumwa between Pella and Mt. Pleasant. She also was part of a quartet chosen to sing the National Anthem at last summer's State Baseball Tournament. Makenzie is the daughter of Mark and Karen Kauffman of Mt. Pleasant.
