Two Mt. Pleasant Students Entering Culinary Classic

Raeanna Crile and Tommy Pham will compete Sunday May 4 at the 5th Culinary Classic at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort. The event is affiliated with the American Culinary Federation.
Mt. Pleasant is the only High School certified through the American Culinary Federation. This charity event is supporting the G.I.V.E. Foundation (Golf for Injured Veterans Everywhere) that provides a setting for injured veterans to enhance their mental, social, physical and emotional well-being and improve their quality of life by learning the game of golf.
In the afternoon the students will be preparing competition plates and will be judged by area Chefs affiliated with the American Culinary Federation. Raeanna is preparing a chocolate mousse and a main course item of Winter Squash and Apple Hash with Rosemary pork. The main course will also be entered in the best of Iowa category since we are using Iowa pork raised in Henry County. Tommy is preparing a dessert which is a Layered Japanese Coffee Jelly Cake. Each student is allowed two sous chefs and they will be their classmates, Nakita Storey, Giorgio Loung, and Reed Mendenhall.
In the evening from 6-8 p.m. the public may purchase tickets to Graze on Soup, Salad, Seafood, Pork, Duck, Beef & Desserts. The tickets can be purchased for $25.00 at the casino gift shop or on line at www.giveforveterans.com. For questions you can call 877-677-3456.
